David O. Carpenter, MD

Dr. Carpenter is a world-renowned research physician, recipient of numerous awards; Leon Resnick, Jacob Javits Neuroscience Investigator, Homer N. Calver, Albion O. Bernstein, M.D.

Dr. Carpenter received both his undergrad and medical degrees from Harvard. He is a research physician as opposed to a practicing physician.

Since 2001, he has been the Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment, University at Albany, SUNY, Rensselaer, NY. The Institute was named a Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization in 2011.

His research interests are:

Exposure to persistent organic pollutants and risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension.

Cognitive and behavioral effects of environmental contaminants on children (IQ, ADHD) and older adults (dementias, Parkinson’s Disease and ALS).

Ionizing and non-ionizing radiation biology.

Effects of air pollution on respiratory and cardiovascular function.
