Safer Healthier Pregnancy

Safer and Healthier Pregnancy Awareness Campaign

Every mother-to-be, strives to have a non-eventful, safe pregnancy, resulting in a healthy baby.

While every pregnant woman knows to eat a healthy diet, not to smoke, drink, take recreational drugs, etc.

What they are not informed about, is that products that they are exposed to in their homes, personal care products or workplace can impact both their developing fetus and reproductive ability.

The NTEF is the only organization in Nevada that has actively endeavored to inform and educate residents on the detrimental health effects of chemicals upon the body. A prima facie example is medical facilities that utilize fragrances, potpourri, candles, air fresheners that permeate the ambient air with chemicals that generate/exacerbate known health conditions.

Every year, the NTEF does their annual awareness month. This year we are revisiting our ‘Safer & Healthier Pregnancy’ campaign. Which was predicated on our research and various environmental groups’ recommendations.

This year we are aggressively promoting the findings and recommendations from the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IFGO). In October 2015, after we did our first awareness campaign, the IFGO released their “Opinion on reproductive health impacts of exposure to toxic environmental chemicals.” The gynecology federation’s focus was on endocrine disrupters, chemicals that imitate sex hormones and often confuse the body. Endocrine disrupters are found in pesticides, plastics, shampoos and cosmetics, cash register receipts, food can linings, flame retardants, and countless other products.”

As you will see from this excerpt, this information must be disseminated for the health and well-being of our residents and other citizens worldwide.

“Preconception and prenatal exposure to toxic chemicals is a critical issue for both women and men of childbearing age. Women and men of reproductive age can encounter toxic chemicals at home, in the community, and in the workplace. Chemicals get into the body through breathing, eating, drinking, and/or penetration of the skin. Chemicals in pregnant women can also cross the placenta. For certain chemicals, such as methyl mercury, the levels in the fetus can be greater than those in the mother. Furthermore, toxic chemicals can enter breastmilk after delivery: persistent organic pollutants and metals are found in the breastmilk of women around the world. Once toxic chemicals enter the body, the reproductive health impacts can be many, can be varied, and can manifest across the lifespan of individuals and future generations. A wide range of adverse reproductive health impacts is associated with prenatal exposure to environmental chemicals that are currently in wide use, as well as exposure to chemicals such as polychlorinated biphenyls, which have been banned for decades but which persist in the environment. As compiled by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) documented links between prenatal exposure to environmental chemicals and adverse health outcomes span the life course and include, but are not limited to, impacts on fertility and pregnancy, neurodevelopment, and cancer.”

Environmental Defence report states, “to a disturbing extent babies are born ‘pre-polluted.’ ”.

Studies have shown that in-utero exposure to Coumarin, a fragrance chemical, has an influence on the development of the brain which can lead to mild neurological dysfunctions in children of school age.

What parents to be need to research and enact:

1). Environmental chemical effects upon male fertility;

2). Environmental chemical effects upon female fertility;

3). Pre-conception environmental chemical reduction recommendations;

4). Remove not reduce all chemicals in your ambient air environment.

5). Read all labels, if the label reads like a chemistry stockroom avoid it.

For those who are holistically minded this may be of interest. THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT.

We provide personal assessments to assist with your transition to a healthy and chemical life and family.
